Nicholas Fatu Sevelo, known to most as Fatu, was a loving son, brother, and uncle. He enjoyed playing sports such as wrestling, football, and rugby. He was a great teammate and an even better friend. Whether it was his hilarious rap freestyles or a quote from his favorite Samuel L. Jackson movie, Fatu was always a source of love and laughter. He had this special ability to connect with individuals from all walks of life. His jovial demeanor had a way of making you feel safe and accepted. Those lucky enough to have known him, know just how special he was.

On Nov 9, 2016, for reasons we will never know, Fatu took his own life. Every year when November comes around, it is always a difficult time. The pain of not having Fatu here with us magnifies. It is a pain we do not wish on anyone. A pain we hope we can prevent for others. Fatu’s Memorial 5k was created not only to keep his memory alive, but to reach out to those affected by suicide and mental health issues. Let us walk together in solidarity for those we’ve lost, for those struggling, and for those who silently fight everyday to survive.
